Be Someone, Inc Founder Echoes Bill Cosby's Comments
Atlanta, GA - Recent coverage in the media reflect actor, producer Bill Cosby's heartfelt and outspoken beliefs about the need for individuals to take responsibility for our own lives, and reconnect with our children to direct their future. A strong proponent of this same view is Be Someone, Inc. founder, Orrin Hudson.
Hudson has dedicated his life and personal resources towards the goal of enlightening parents and children of the necessity to direct our own lives by being self-responsible and self-sufficient since 2001. A chess champion, he uses the time-tested strategies of chess to teach life mastery lessons, reaching over 15,000 children in five states.
The goal of highly acclaimed Be Someone is to motivate "at risk" children, teaching them they are in the driver's seat on the road to life, mapping out their own success or failure by the conscious choices they make on a daily basis. When they first are introduced to the concepts of Be Someone, many feel their roadmap to life has already be blueprinted by where they live, what their family situation is, and the cards that life has dealt them.
Understanding the challenges many of these children face from his personal experiences, Hudson can relate to their frustration and sense of hopelessness. He grew up in the housing projects of Birmingham, Alabama. A young entrepreneur, at age 13 he stole inner tubes and sold them for a quarter each. By age 15 his pattern was set, and he was headed for trouble. However, the intervention and concern of one of his teachers redirected his life through the game of chess. Hudson learned to think before making a move, and realized each action carried a consequence, creating his own destiny. These are the lessons he shares with each child who enters his award-winning program.
By teaching children to recognize patterns in the world around them, and in their personal lives, he helps them begin to make positive choices for change. His dynamic motivational program opens their eyes to their personal worth and value as productive citizens. Not all respond; however many do.
"It's my job to keep connecting with them and help motivate them to rise above the negative image others have of them," says Hudson. "I help them see the greatness within themselves, and their value as productive citizens and caring human beings."
No one succeeds alone. Be Someone is comprised of a small group of volunteers, working together to teach children life lessons through the game of chess. The program has been taught in schools, recreation centers, churches...anywhere children can come together in a positive atmosphere. As funds become available, Hudson hopes to open his own teaching and motivational center.
"I am completely committed to sharing a winning mindset that enables children and adults to believe in themselves," comments Hudson.
Recognized for its outstanding community service, Be Someone has been recognized with prestigious awards including the Harborlights Beacon of Hope Award, Emory University's Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award, TBS Superstation Pathfinders For Education Award, the Atlanta Braves and Piedmont Hospital Community Leader Awards, among others.
Orrin Hudson and Be Someone, Inc. have taken to heart the very principles and challenges Bill Cosby has recently presented to communities across the country. They urge full community commitment and renewed involvement in the lives of our children.
