Founder Makes Personal Account Public to Show Power of BLACKGIVING.COM

Atlanta, GA - BlackGiving.com founder, Vince Martin has just released his personal account information to demonstrate the power of BlackGiving.com.

BlackGiving.com is the website that allows people to shop online at over 133 popular retailers and have a portion of what they spend donated to an African-American cause at no extra cost. The site is currently working hard to grow its free membership to one million.

I decided to release my BlackGiving.com account information so that people can see the power of BlackGiving.com in action , said Martin. What I ve released represents about six months of using BlackGiving.com, and in that time frame, my personal shopping has generated about $140 for various causes in the black community.

Martin emphasizes that while this may not sound like a lot of money, it is amazing when you consider several factors.

You have to remember that it didn t cost me one extra penny to shop through BlackGiving.com. In fact, I actually saved money in many cases by taking advantage of BlackGiving.com special offers and coupons. And, it was so easy. I shopped where I wanted to shop and it only took an extra mouse click.

Martin says that he s spent nearly $2600 online to generate the $140 in donations, which roughly translates to 5% of his spending going directly back into the community. His purchases have included flowers, airline tickets, contact lenses, shoes, clothes, CDs and more.

That s mind-blowing when you think about it. Let s be conservative and estimate that over one year, I m on course to personally generate $200 for our community. With only 10,000 members shopping through BlackGiving.com we re talking $2 million. With 100,000 -- which is still a tiny percentage of us we can put $20 million back to work in our community. And, when we reach our goal of one million members, we can apply $200 million a year directly to our challenges. We can improve our schools, lower the AIDS rate, create businesses, and give our families and kids a fighting chance. There is no end to what we can do when we use our collective power.

The founder makes another important observation.

Our homepage shows that BlackGiving.com has raised $1399.92 for registered nonprofits. We greatly appreciate the efforts of our current members in raising these funds. They ve decided that they care enough to participate in building a better community and they re doing it. But, given the potential I ve stated, we can and must do much better. BlackGiving.com says that it takes all of us to build a better community, and that s the simple truth of it. A few of us can't do it alone.

So, Martin closes with a request.

The power and potential of BlackGiving.com are undeniable. We need only more active members for this movement. I talked for years about the challenges in the black community, and I noticed that nothing happened as a result of just talking. We must all move beyond talk to action. I ask everyone to start today by joining BlackGiving.com and insisting that their friends do so as well. Creating a better community will never be easier.
