Mark G and the Nude Expo
By Grace Bak
Following up with the Paint Nude Expo is another spectacular event presenting body art, in a thoroughly new and exciting format a Nude Fashion Show! A Nude fashion show may sound paradoxical at first, but the Nude Fashion Show promises to be a truly unique, one-of-a-kind event. Presenting models “wearing ”beautiful images of body art on a formal runway (with a theatrical spin)setting,it is a full fashion show: there will be music, poetry and spoken word, showcase of fashion items, food and after party - the whole nine yards.
"The visual art has been three-dimensional for a long time in the form of sculpture, but body art brings it into motion. With the addition of music and theater of a fashion show it is given life," says Mark G, the artist whose body art will be presented in the show.Mark G has body-painted for more than 10 years; he designs the body art just as any fashion designer might design an item of clothing, paints the models, photographs them then he takes it a step further by creating paintings from these photographs,on wood with acrylic.
The first time ever for event of such kind, the fashion show is set in a theatrical backdrop of African landscape, according to its First theme of “Back to the Black.” Five different sets of scenes titled Purpose, The People, Spiritual Path, Maffat The Order, Back to theBlack, will be narrated by different hosts. Purpose will present five different Animals; five different African Masks will be presented in the People; Spiritual Path, the twelve Zodiac signs; Maffat The Order will present the hieroglyphics from ancient Kemet.Kemet is the ancient Egypt, the first civilization in the world.

"These were people of African origins, the people who understood the purpose of our existence on the planet," says Mark G. The event is therefore not only a fashion show with a flair but a deeply spiritual and cultural event. The theme “Back to the Black” highlights the African culture in its richness, spirituality, and long heritage, and the need to look back to it. “Art is the key... African people are artistic people. It is innate within us, we just need to identify that and make it happen, ”says Mark G. So this show is organized, to recognize and celebrate the visual art, which has always been more of “a quiet storm, a hidden jewel.” The most perfect and intricate form of art on earth, the human body, especially a woman's body, is only the most appropriate medium. Many people consider nude as controversial, but “we came into the world nude, and we leave it nude. The planet we are living on is like a woman, giving birth and nurturing life, ”said Mark G. Another aim for the show is to empower artists by providing creative outlet to all talents - the musicians, poets and spoken word artists, models, fashion designers.
The name ‘international’ Nude Fashion Show points to where it aims to go; the first theme of the show is African, but the ultimate goal is to invite all different cultures, with their own form of body art, symbols and music, and food... it will be like “Olympics of art” to empower artists, an event for and by the artists.
Believing that everything in this world is a form of visual art, Mark G strives to leave his mark as an artist which is a gift from God hence the name, Mark G. He uses any medium that may be found around, recycling old jeans to make backpacks, etc. He aspires to be a role model to the kids as an artist, just like any of them may look at Michael Jordan or any hip hop star for inspiration. He teaches art to children through an after school art program called Creative Kids, to cultivate their artistic talents and creativity.
