Frank Morrison

Frank Morrison has been called one of the most aspiring artists of his generation. Morrison has received numerous accolades from his peers as well as his supporters. He has developed his media by testing himself during the various stages of his life and career. Morrison’s family hold him true to his style and his passion for art. He has evolved through his art and cultivate the love of beauty by not going against what he holds true, the idea of brining his canvas alive with what is alive in all of us, beauty and passion.

Morrison began his career when in his youth as a graffiti artist, which is now termed “street art.” During this time his graffiti developed his elongated style and dramatized figures. He captures the essence of his subjects; “Sound Check” Morrison depicts the depth of the musicians when rehearsing in the studio. Frank’s passion for music is also evident in “Backstage” where musicians are just hanging out jammin’. "Go Cart" and "1. 2. 3." demonstrates his love for children. His church upbringing can be found in "Gospel Park" and "Can I Get A Witness", "My Child Your World" and "Grand Mothers Favorite Book" shows his understanding of love for mothers and grandmothers.

Morrison’s work can be found with such notable collectors as Rudy Crew, New York City’s School Chancellor, New Orleans Senator Gregory Tarver, Dr. Lauren Hale of the infamous Hale House, the irrepressible Bill Cosby, who prides himself on discovering the artistic talents of African Americans. His works are also shown on various television shows such as Malcolm and Eddie and New York Undercover just to name a few. Morrison’s commissions are equally impressive, he created a crowd pleaser entitled “Duet”, which was commissioned by Essence for their annual music festival. He has also been called upon by Dr. Lorraine Hale to paint the commemorative painting commemorating their 30th year celebrating the service they provide to the children of Harlem as well as to the community.

"Knowing that Dr. Hale could at the touch of a phone call to commission any one of the great artists of today makes this very special to my family and myself. This is one of the most prestigious honors I could ever receive. Dr. Hale as her mother was and is an extraordinary women, she is ardent art collector. To have my work hanging next to original Romare Beardens makes me speechless and proud." states Morrison.

Morrison receives his strength and inspiration from his mother and his grandparents. He was born in Massachusetts and later moved his family to New Jersey. It was apparent early in Morrison’s life that he had a desire for fine arts which he discovered while transforming his graffiti into what grew into his artistic flair. He didn’t if that indeed was his calling, but once he was on tour in Paris and visited the Lourvre Museum he realized at that moment he wanted to paint. He credits Charles White as one of the masters he admires most.

Although his scenes creates an era past and present his messages are timeless. Morrison believes in giving his “Thanks To God” for his talents and his gifts. He feels blessed to have his wife Connie and their three children. Morrison and his family currently reside in New Jersey. TTG will always be apparent towards his love in the things he holds most high, his “Thanks to God.”
